Dwarves

Each of the three nations (Skygar, Oeft and Asy) is distinct, and some Dwarves believe that a Skygarder or an Oeftine are races upon themselves. This may have once been true, long ago, but cross-breeding over the centuries has slowly eroded any differences in hair color, skin color and beard thickness.

Dwarven politics are particularly guild-driven, with the mining guilds (who, in their words, are the driving force behind the Dwarven economy) lobbying hard for their chosen members, and there is plenty of bribery and blackmailing happening behind the scenes. With the news of orcish armies out in the lower Marchlandes, there has been some change in this regard, with military leaders and merchant guilds gaining in popularity as they capitalise on the possibility of war (a situation that would deeply hurt the export driven economy pushed by the mining guilds).

Extending upon this, Dwarven architecture is about pragmatism rather than beauty, and this has borne the blunt edges and abundance of stonework that the other races recognise as Dwarven (though a Skygarder will claim to be able to pick the difference between a Skygarder’s handiwork and one from an Asy Dwarf). Caverns and underground halls are a given, but many Dwarves actually live above ground, in hexagonal stone huts, since it provides better opportunity for hunting and trade.
